The art form of performance poetry, often referred to as Spoken Word, thrives among a vibrant community of dynamic poets right here in Houston, Texas. For many years, the competitive form of Spoken Word, called poetry slam, has struggled to gain notoriety in Houston’s teeming arts scene.
For each of those seven years Houston Poetry Slam has barely beaten the financial and organizational odds to send the Houston Slam Team to the annual National Poetry Slam to compete against over seventy other teams from around the nation and world. Each year your slam team members demonstrate to the nation that Houston, like any other world class city, is home to some of the most literate, thought provoking, and expressive Spoken Word artists in the world.
The Houston Slam Team Grand Slam Final is the culmination of Super Slam Week each year and four poets become the 2010 Houston Slam Team to represent our city at the 2010 National Poetry Slam .
We seek sponsors and/or donors to help support the presentation of poetry slams in our city, and to help send your team to the National competition.
Poetry Slam Incorporated is a 501c3 organization and serves as our umbrella. Through their Grant Back Program you can be assured that your gift is not only tax deductible but 90% of your gift will be granted back to support our local Houston Poetry Slam.
