Past Houston Slam Teams!

The 2008 Houston Slam Team first included Camryn Bargenier and Byron Williams. But they left the team the very next week after the Houston Slam Team Grand Slam. After two Alternate Slams the team finally became composed of the members you see pictured on this page. The final rank at the 2008 National Poetry Slam for the Houston Slam Team was 71 out of 78 teams. Despite the record this was one of the best teams in Houston Slam Team History in terms of working hard and well with one another.

If you want your teams to do better and be more competitive versus the major teams from around the nation we need your individual support and major sponsorship.

August 9, 2008

Slam Charlotte repeated as National Poetry Slam Champion for the second year in a row. Houston Poetry Slam finished ranked 71 out of 78 teams. Unlike past Houston Slam Teams that lost, the 2008 Houston Slam Team did not return to Houston pointing fingers at one another. We really hated losing, but we maintained our poise in defeat, and remained dedicated to loyalty and respect toward our fellow team mates. That makes this team the greatest Houston Slam Team ever.

It's the Houston Slam Team feature at the Shadow Bar on 213 Milam in the heart of downtown Houston. Se7ven has pledged to give each slam team featured at Shadow Bar a donation based on the amount of people that show up. Be sure to show up on the 20th. The two teams that bring the most people will go head to head in winner take all slam on the fourth Sunday of April. We're trying to raise money to send the team to Nationals. So please support the Houston Slam Team.

These are the results of the Alternate Slam at Notsuoh on Wednesday March 19th. The contestants were Sal, Resonance, and Queen Sheba. The winner of the first alternate spot was Queen Sheba. Congratulations to Queen Sheba! She will be traveling with the Houston Slam Team to perform on an as needed basis.

The 2008 Houston Slam Team is now: Deep Blu See, Larry Cortez, Trinity, Brother Said, and Queen Sheba.

February 2008

On Sunday February 17th at the Chateau we had an Alternates Slam to fill the two open spots on the Houston Slam Team. The winners were Trinity and Deep Blu See.

You still have a chance to be on the Houston Slam Team. We are looking for reserve poets to go with us to the National Poetry Slam. We will be holding Alternate Slams for poets to compete for reserve spots on the team. The next Alternates slam is March 19 @ Notsuohs.

Last Week was our first Super Slam Week, and it was a rousing success. This past Saturday On January 26, 2008 we had our Houston Slam Team Grand Slam with four of the top ranking poets from Super Slam Week competing for cash prizes. The winners were Camryn Barganier ($300), Brother Said (not elgible for prize), Byron Williams($150), and the Lethal Lyricist Larry Cortez($100). Unfortunately, Camryn and Byron left the team due to personal isues. We wish them well in their ongoing endeavors.
