Questions and Answers.

How do I register for Super Slam Week?
By slamming in any or all qualifying slams before Super Slam Week to get 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or at least 4th place which earns you a seed based on your ranking. Or sign up here online at www.houstonpoetryslam.org as an unseeded poet. Or you can show up at the start of Super Slam Week to sign up in person.

Where do I go to compete in a qualifier slam before Super Slam Week?

Keep checking our myspace page (myspace.com/houstonpoetryslam) or here at www.houstonpoetryslam.org for the times and venues for at least three qualifier slams.

Do I need a ranking?

You don't need a ranking to slam in Super Slam Week, but you should want a ranking to avoid the random draw for positions at the start of a slam. Each slam begins with a random drawing to determine the order of poets in the first round: ABCD. The highest ranking poets in the Super Slam Week final earn the privilege of choosing their position in the 1st round. Unseeded poets must receive their position in the first round  by random draw.

When is Super Slam Week?
Sometime in late January or early February. The schedule is being finalized.

What are the rules of a slam?
While every local slam is unique, all slams include these BASIC rules: no props, no costumes, no musical accompaniment, and all your poems must be written by you, and performed in 3 minutes (with a ten second grace period).
